Diablo 4 hardcore players are casting doubts on the veracity

Blizzard released Diablo 4 almost exactly one month ago, on June 5th. Available on PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the Diablo 4 Items multiplayer action RPG sees players on a quest to save the ironically-named world of Sanctuary from the machinations of the demon Lilith. Diablo 4 saw overall positive reviews, with particular praise going to the story, atmosphere, and visual design. While it's not above criticism, many see Diablo 4 as a step up from its predecessor.

Diablo 4 Players Find Gold Economy Too Punishing

However, there are a few areas where the new game feels like its features have been stripped out. As Reddit user Sardoron points out, this includes Diablo 4's lack of a Profile Viewer. A feature of 2012's Diablo 3, the Profile Viewer allowed players to see various statistics about how they play the game. This includes the user's overall playtime, playtime by class, dungeons cleared, elite enemies slain, information about each of their characters, and other stats. It also lets players compare their stats with their friends.

While these player statistics aren't necessarily vital information, they are nice to have, and it is understandable that some Diablo 4 players might miss it. Sardoron also isn't the only Diablo 4 player to feel this way, as evidenced by the top comment under their post. As user BoldWarSeer pointed out, while it's good to be patient and that such features will probably arrive eventually, it's frustrating that Blizzard omitted such a feature from Diablo 4.

The inability of players to view their statistics isn't the only criticism players have of Diablo 4's interface. As the post's comments show, the lack of side quest tracking is an even bigger issue for some players than the missing stats screen.

It's also odd, considering Blizzard has access to at least some of this information. The game is always online, and Blizzard recently shared some very detailed stats about Diablo 4. A week after the game's release, the studio published how many hours players spent in the game, the number of player deaths, and Diablo 4's most popular class. Now, Blizzard just needs to add a system for players to view some of the data for themselves.

Diablo 4 hardcore players are casting doubts on the veracity of Blizzard's list of the top 1,000 Hardcore players that first reached level 100. Instead of a launch season and leaderboard for Diablo 4 Hardcore mode, Blizzard instead chose to do a race to level 100. Players needed to reach 100 with a Hardcore character and then submit their accomplishment on Twitter. However, Blizzard's now-published results appear to be missing dozens of Diablo 4 players that successfully completed the task.

In May, Blizzard first announced its Diablo 4 Hardcore launch race. The first 1,000 Hardcore players that leveled all the way up to Diablo 4's cap of 100 would not only be officially recognized by Blizzard, but would have their names carved into a statue of the villain Lilith placed on the studio's campus. Blizzard has since shared its list of the first 1,000 players to reach level 100 in Diablo 4's Hardcore mode. That's where the problems started.

Diablo 4 Teases 'Corruption' at Upcoming Developer Livestream

With the release of Blizzard's official list of the first 1,000 Hardcore players to reach level 100 in Diablo 4, many players who were confident they'd be on the list discovered their names have been overlooked. A Reddit thread on the Diablo4 subreddit shared evidence of their completing all expected tasks to be on Blizzard's list, yet they aren't included. They say they have no reason to believe they should have been left off, but have no way of correcting the situation other than to bring up the issue in the Diablo 4 community.

After the Reddit post went live, however, it grew obvious that there were many Diablo 4 Hardcore players in the exact same situation. Over 25 different Diablo 4 players shared evidence of completing the task, but being left out of Blizzard's list. Twitch streamer MMOexp even looked into the topic in a recent stream, but couldn't figure out some many people were left out.

The situation is bizarre, to say the least. There are many theories about why so many were left off the list. Theories include players being from banned regions, having ties to Blizzard employees, having been included in the alpha, having inappropriate character names, or potentially being blocked by the Blizzard employees collecting names on D4 materials Twitter. None of these theories seem to hold up, given just how many Diablo 4 players were left off the list.
